Play Golf? How Chiropractic Care Can Help Improve Your Game
In August, 2008 PRNewswire reported that up to 85% of golfers injuries were related to the spine, and that over 75% of professional golfers on both tours use chiropractic care. Consistent, high level performance is everything in golf. Ask Tiger Woods.
Tiger Woods and Chiropractic Care
Tiger and chiropractic go back a long way. In 1995, Tiger Woods rode on the prize winning Chiropractic Centennial float in the Rose Bowl Parade to promote what chiropractic has done for him. He attributes some of his incredible performance to his continued chiropractic care. Recently, other professional golfers are following his lead. Shouldn't you, too?
Golf and Chiropractic
After providing upper cervical golf pain relief to thousands of sufferers at our Las Vegas chiropractic office, we know what it takes to keep you on the greens. And if your family or friends of an injured golfer, you've probably seen them struggle with their stroke, or "bum" around the house bemoaning how the miss playing. Allowing golf related injuries to go untreated is not only extremely painful, it may make future attacks harder to control.
- Backs - The average amateur golfer has over rotation of the lumbo-sacral spine, and in addition to rotation, the lumbar spine is subjected to forces of lateral bending, anteroposterior shearing, and compression.
- Elbows - Caused during the backswing when the patient reaches the elastic barrier of the connective tissue surrounding their scapulothoracic and glenohumeral joints of the forward arm...they bend at the elbow to keep moving the club head further behind their body. During the downswing, the bent elbow will snap into hyperextension at impact with the ball.
- Hands/wrists - Golfers injure their hands and wrists when they play the ball "down." (deep wet rough or in a bush or adjacent to a tree root). The injury occurs as a result of the rapid deceleration of the club head relative to the connective tissues in the hands and wrist as the club head meets resistance.
- Sore muscles and spasm - When the body is not aligned, even hitting 100 balls at the range can produce sore muscles. Muscle spasms generally appear hours, even days, following a golf session. Left unresolved it can result in a loss of range of motion.
NUCCA Chiropractors & Sports Injuries
NUCCA & Your Brain
NUCCA Chiropractic has studied the science of the brainstem, an area protected by the upper most neck bone known as the atlas. This bone is shaped like a ring, with the sensitive brainstem dangling in the middle. Any shifting of this bone due to auto accidents, falls, sports injuries, arthritis, degeneration, or just plain wear and tear, can put direct pressure on the brainstem, and force the body to compensate underneath, causing pain from head to toe.
Pressure on the brainstem can be evaluated and gently treated using NUCCA Chiropractic, a tested, safe procedure which gently realigns the neck vertebrae taking pressure off the brainstem, and in many cases, eliminating back, neck and shoulder pain completely.
Low Level Laser & Pain Relief
Our office also provides low level laser pain relief. Low-level laser works on a microscopic, cellular level. It is postulated that the "energized light" from the laser increases blood supply to the nerves, reduces inflammation, and promotes healing of damaged nerves. A number of papers have shown a reduction of pain with laser treatments. In a study involving over 4,000 subjects who had suffered from chronic painful conditions, more than eighty percent of the subjects found a marked lessening of their symptoms following use of low-level laser.
In another study involving 69 subjects and a total of 302 laser treatment sessions, over ninety percent of the subjects with chronic pain experienced greater than fifty percent total relief following treatment.
Golf injuries in Las Vegas are the same as it is elsewhere in the US , but every case is different. The first step is a consultation to determine if you or someone you care about is a candidate at our Las Vegas Chiropractic office.
